There hadn't been any fights breaking out at the tavern, no one trying to steal food or drinks (that they'd seen), and no destroyed property. Yes, it a good night.
Chiyo smiled as she sat the tray on the bar and waited on the next line of food to come up. Her break was ten minutes ago, and she still hadn't taken it. How could she? There was so much to be done, and she needed the money! Her co-workers had called her crazy when she'd mentioned needing more hours due to the fact she'd blown almost the entirety of her money helping a stranger she'd found unconscious in the alleyway. She rationalized it, saying she would have wanted someone to do the same for her, but in truth, she knew nothing about the man.
What if she'd saved a vicious killer? Someone who'd want to hurt her under any normal circumstances? Would she save her father...
She didn't know the answers to those questions, didn't want to dwell on them, so she didn't.
"Chiyo, it's time for your break," her boss blocked her from getting back out to the floor. The woman was gruff, but she cared about her workers. That's why Chiyo liked working for her- she'd been so patient with her trying to get her to talk to all of the boisterous men, many of whom may have barked at her, but they'd never lay a hand on her.
"I know, Ya'suri! let me just take this table they're drinks and I'll take it!" with a nod of approval from the woman, she took the tray with the two beers and made her way to the table. Who she saw... shocked her.
"Umm, here... you go," she tried not to make eye contact, scared of the reaction. This was bad. This was very bad.

He'd dreamed of a girl. A beautiful Wyeshing girl with striking blue eyes. It was so vivid he knew it must have been reality, but the only thing he could remember was her face as she looked down at him. And when he woke up, he couldn't remember anything about himself. She was the only clear thing in his mind.
Tahir, the young man who'd been watching over him for the past few days after hearing Daeun had fallen into a coma, told him he was a pirate captain, or had been before he lost a duel and his ship, the Crimson Tide. Apparently, he and Tahir had been friends. Daeun thought that was probably true. Only a true friend would sit at an invalid's side, not knowing whether they would ever wake up. It saddened and frustrated him that he could not remember the young man, or anything else for that matter.
When Daeun expressed this, Tahir suggested they leave the inn and go get drinks. So that's what they did. The pirate-style coat was the first thing that felt familiar as he put it on over his sleeveless shirt, then tugged on the tall leather boots. He was a little unsteady on his feet, but he seemed to get stronger with every step, and his friend was there to help him if he stumbled. Still, he hated having to be helped along like this. He was grateful when they finally sat down at a table and ordered.
"Umm, here... you go."
He looked up into her face, the face of the girl from his dreams. The blue eyes, the long brown hair, the sweet little mouth. He tried, somewhat unsuccessfully, to keep the shock from showing plainly on his face. It took a long moment before he could tear his eyes from her, and then he just stared into his drink, dumbfounded. He should say something, shouldn't he? He hadn't really expected to find the girl, but now that he had, he couldn't let her go. But he didn't know what to say or do.
He glanced over at Tahir. "It's her!" he mouthed behind a hand so the girl wouldn't see, having told him about his dream earlier, hoping he might know how to handle the situation.
((OOC: Fleur and Chii, hope you don't mind I took a little bit of control and threw Tahir into the thread. If you don't like it, I'll change it, no problem.))

Seeing his friend and former captain wander the streets of Tai Ran had come as a surprise to Tahir, for a couple of reasons. First of all, none of the crew had been told the exact outcome of the duel after the winner and new captain came to claim his prize – the Crimson Tide. Since Tahir's opinion of the new owner of the ship was, mildly put, not the highest, he had decided to wander around shore until he found a new great adventure to go on, or when the money ran out, whichever came first. And, through a drunken gaze one night, his friend, which he had presumed not to be among the living any more, was the last person he'd expected to see.
His shock was only to be amplified when Daeun didn't seem to recognize him – after all the thick and thin they'd been through. It seemed he couldn't remember anything, really. The South Carthonian had heard of cases when people would lose their memories after a trauma, but, in all honesty, such theoretical information didn't bother him much if it had no practical example.
But now, the pirate could see just how confused his friend was and it upset him deeply. It had affected the way he carried himself completely – the confidence in his gait had given way to uncertainty, his gaze was searching, worried and not cocky, like it used to be. Daeun needed help, and Tahir decided to stay and watch over him. He had tried to make him remember; told him stories of their wildest adventures and described places they'd visited, people they knew, Daeun's beloved ship. Yet all his friend seemed to remember was a girl – of whom he spoke with such ardour.
Since the stories didn't seem to help much, making both menquite frustrated, Tahir had decided to take Daeun to a bar – if it didn't help, it'd take his mind of things. And there was a fair chance that the captain'd remember things when he'd engage in his old habits. Besides, after a couple of days of sitting in one room, going out was a very welcome change for the gregarious South Carthonian. He wore an unbuttoned khaki shirt, which revealed his muscular chest and a pair of blue pants, paired off with a pair of old black boots. His signature chain with pendant dangling around his neck and his hair combed for the occasion, he was ready to head out town.
The place they had chosen wasn't anything special, but it was quite alright for the evening. They picked out a table, that was secluded enough, but offered a view of the whole room – just in case something exciting happened, Tahir didn't want to miss it.
But, as it turned out, the exciting thing would occur right in front of his nose.
Even if some mean tongues would say that the pirate wasn't one of the brightest, he was very adept at reading body language. Daeun's eyes told him everything. His own dark pair darted to the girl immediately. She was a looker all right, but also painfully shy, avoiding eye contact, her whole posture suggesting she would have rather hid under the table than face them. He would have to tune down around this one. After another short glance at his friend, who looked too shocked to handle the situation, Tahir nodded at him knowingly and decided to take things into his own hands.
Gently, he touched the girl's forearm as she put down their drinks. ”Excuse me, miss,” his voice was soft, as he didn't want to scare her, but yet loud enough to be heard. Even if Tahir was a pirate to the bone, growing up around a lot of women had taught him to be respectful towards the other sex. ”My friend here seems to think he knows you,” he gestured towards Daeun. ”Can you remember him or should I tell him he's nuts?” a cheeky, harmless grin appeared upon Tahir's lips.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • She should have known better than to think she could hide. She was recognized right away, even with her head down and her hair mostly hiding her face from view.
Chiyo straightened and tucked the tray up to her abdomen, looking at the men as one of them spoke to her. "...Ah..." she bit her lip, looking down. "I know him..." she reluctantly gave the information up. She didn't know if this was some sort of set up or not, and she didn't want to give them a reason to hurt her for lying. This was starting to be similar to the life she'd known before, and her survival instinct kicked in. She may not be able to save herself, but if she could lessen her punishment.
"I-I mean, I don't know who you are," she hesitantly glanced in Daeun's direction. "But... I've seen you.. before... You were unconscious." she finished lamely and shifted her weight. No one else was looking in their direction; she knew this because she couldn't feel any eyes on her. No one was interested in the situation, no one would care if she went missing...
The thought saddened her considerably. No one would miss her- she didn't have anyone to attempt to stay safe for aside from herself. But wasn't herself enough? She'd mentally repeated that to herself, finding some solace in the thought that she could be alone. But what was a life alone? Without friends? Even if she was terrified of romance, that didn't mean that she didn't desire friendship.
Her eyes fell to the floor, and she waited for a response- any kind of response.

Daeun could have smacked Tahir. Did he just have to say it in the most humiliating way possible? Well, at least he got her attention, and asked the question Daeun had been dying to ask. He looked at her again. She seemed rather shy, hugging the tray to her chest like she did. And she was short, almost tiny. If he stood up, he was sure he would tower over her. It brought out a little protective urge in him, from where he had no idea. He wondered how old she was; she seemed so young to be working.
He hadn't expected her to remember him, but he was so glad she did. As a matter of fact, he hadn't completely expected her to be real, either, though here she was in front of him. It meant there was something he had remembered from before he'd slipped into his coma. Perhaps there was some hope of regaining the rest of his memories after a while. He certainly hoped so. He hated not being able to recall details from his past like this. So he had to cling to the one thing he did know--this girl--even if their meeting had just been a random occurrence. But she seemed so shy and uneasy. What could he possibly do to reassure her?
"I dreamed about you," he said, then immediately regretted his words. What kind of a conversation starter was that?! Now she'd think he was some kind of crazy idiot. "That is, I... oh gods..." He clapped a hand over one eye and shook his head at his own folly. He got the feeling he used to be much more suave at this kind of thing. Why couldn't he have at least retained that much?

If Daeun thought Tahir's straightforward, in-your-face attitude towards handling delicate situations was unnerving, well, he was in for a bumpy ride.
The pirate furrowed his brows as the petite girl clenched the tray against her stomach in a protective manner. Apparently, her shyness was much more severe than Tahir had first suspected. When it came to the weaker sex, the South Carthonian preferred confident women. Ones, who knew what they wanted, weren't afraid to express it nor act upon it. But shy, more reserved girls were fun, too, he supposed: getting to know them, deciphering their code, luring them out of their shell. Anyway, he needn't worry about it; his friend seemed to have a thing for this one, and even if Tahir didn't follow many rules, “bros before hos” was one of them.
A smile reappeared upon the young man's lips as the girl admitted to knowing Daeun. ”That's great news!” Tahir exclaimed before his friend could even react. His excited gaze wandering from the girl to Daeun, he leaned back against the chair and clapped his hands twice. ”Isn't it, captain?” he addressed his friend in a way he'd used to, even if the title 'Captain' wasn't accurate anymore.
Watching Daeun stutter and be probably just as shy as the girl was about the situation was almost physically painful to Tahir. Not only did his friend's overly timid demeanor not match his old self, this kind of clumsy behaviour around women was just embarrassing. And, for better or worse, it made Tahir want to take the situation into his own hands, with the full confidence that his friend would thank him one day for doing this.
”Alright, you two, this is what we're going to do,” the wavy-haired man said in an assertive tone while he stood up. ”Imma go ahead and go to the bar, while you,” he stepped towards the girl, who seemed almost half his size, and put his hand between her shoulder blades, guiding her towards his former seat gently. ”You will sit down and have a nice chat with Daeun here,” he gestured to the other male with his free hand in order to clarify who Daeun was. After all, if he was unconscious at the moment of their meeting, they probably hadn't time to exchange names. ”By the way, I'm Tahir, what's your name?” His big brown eyes looked as reassuringly as he could manage at the shy girl.

And suddenly, she could tell, in the way he was acting, that he wasn't going to hurt her. He seemed gentle, kind even. And he didn't seem like he knew how to work a charm on a lady, which relieved her. Guys, like his friend, scared her half to death most of time. She just gave Daeun a kind smile as tahir stood up. But when he put his hands on her, she froze in place, eyes widening. The knuckles of her fingers turned white with the force she was clutching her tray. And she silently wished that he would just go away.
He may not have had evil intentions, but that didn't mean she wasn't afraid. But now she was sitting with his friend- the man she'd taken care of- she felt a little more at ease. She didn't relax in her posture, not much. She sat down the tray on the table and stared over at Daeun, trying to think of what she could say- what she should say. He had asked her name... the darker skinned male. "Chiyo... Aiseki..." she said with a soft, meek tone to her voice.
It was obvious the girl was scared right out of her mind, she just didn't do well interacting with people in general on a one-on-one session, but especially not males.... and males who came on strong at that. She decided to try to ignore it, though. He seemed to be leaving to go to the bar, so she smiled at them, she'd wait on her questions for Daeun until the talkative one had left.

Captain. The word sounded right to him, for some reason. He felt as if he could remember being called that before, rather than simply intellectualizing the fact that, yes, he had been a captain. That was a good sign, wasn't it? Even if he couldn't remember much else, at least some of the pieces were coming back to him. It heartened him to think that he might remember all of his old life someday. He smiled back at Tahir.
Daeun envied his friend a little as the tan, wavy-haired man took charge of the situation, getting the girl to sit down and introducing the two of them. He had been like that himself once, hadn't he? Now, it seemed like his intentions got stuck in his mind, as if something was holding him back. Perhaps it was some sort of side-effect from the duel. Yes, the duel. He remembered that now, or part of it, anyway--using his power to try to kill the other man and having it thrown back upon him. And then later, he saw the girl, and blacked out.
He looked up at her as she said her name. "That's cute. I like it," he said, smiling a little, setting his elbow on the table and his chin on his hand. He was relaxing a little, though she seemed to be as nervous as ever. What could he do to make her more comfortable? If he were his old self, maybe he would know, but he didn't have any idea now. In near exasperation, he took a long pull from his drink, hoping that might help somehow.
"So... I didn't dream you up. Were you the one that took me to the inn? The innkeeper said my room had been paid for. If that was you, then I owe you a great deal."

Chiyo pushed some of her light colored hair behind her ear. "I couldn't just leave you there to die." it was hard to believe that had she not came along, the man likely would be dead. Not many people took that route when travelling from work due to it's positioning- it was a dark alley. But she supposed she braved it for rather stupid reasons, namely being that her apartment was just on the other side.
She bit her lip, looking up at him after she'd said it. "W-well! Umm... one of my friends is throwing a party! A-and... if you're like to, um, you could maybe... go with me?" she asked hopefully. She'd originally asked her friend J'tai to go but he said he'd likely be too busy, and she didn't want to look stupid showing up. Certainly she was friendly with Ah'zurei, but the girl intimidated her, and she didn't want to end up looking stupid because her supposed 'date' couldn't make it.
Besides, he said he owed her, right? This would be the perfect way for him to make it up to her, and it wasn't a hard task, right? She gave him a timid smile before adding: "That is, if you want to. You don't have to or anything..." she felt herself beginning to blush and quickly looked away. Daeun was handsome, but he wasn't intimidating her, which was rare in a male. She'd never met one who'd met both of those criteria (none she'd talked to, anyways). by your thoughtless scheming tagged [ person ] words [ words ] credits [ roasty ] song [ break your little heart ]

Daeun's eyebrows raised. He didn't remember much about himself, but he knew what Tai Ran and its people were like well enough. "Not many people would have helped some stranger in an alley," he said quietly, almost talking into his drink before he took another sip. "Still, I... I don't have any money, but... I would like to repay you somehow."
Honestly, up until that point, all he had been focusing on was finding the girl from his 'dream,' and now that he had, he didn't really know what to do with himself. He was still trying to recover his memories, and sometimes he had trouble speaking or doing things. He wasn't sure he would be able to find any work. It made him feel rather helpless.
At the mention of a party, he looked up at her again. Her shyness was refreshing; he couldn't help but smile at her. Maybe it wasn't much, but he could do this much for her. That was a start, at least. Even if he wasn't too keen on big gatherings right now, seeing as he was prone to embarrassing himself lately. He glanced over at Tahir at the bar. The wavy-haired man seemed to be enjoying himself. Would he mind? He didn't think it would be polite to invite his friend to a party where he only knew one person.
"No no, a party sounds fun. I... I would love to go. When is it?"
