Along the border of Niendra and Carthonia, tensions were beginning to reach and all-time high. Delani had witnessed, first hand, rogue soldiers crossing the boarders, scuffles breaking out, people dying. It made travelling to visit his friend more dangerous than usual. But he was still determined to see him. Ra'theris was the most important person in his life. He was the only one who fully accepted Delani for who he was... and he was always worried that he'd go to his home and find him dead.
The thought made Delani pick up the pace as he ran. It was a dangerous sprint to the estate, he could be taken out by any of the soldiers that were making their way to the border- the plan was to set up a barrier that neither country could cross, but the violence was... intense, to say the least. And he knew the soldiers weren't above killing civilians out of hatred for the country they belonged to.
His eyes widened as he saw a man darting for him. "SHIT!" he cursed and ran faster. It was a Carthonian soldier, and he was angry. A blast of fire grazed his arm, causing him to hiss in pain. But he wasn't giving up. If he turned back now, he'd surely be dead. So, he kept running. It was all he could do. He slid into the hidden opening of the house that led to the basement. It was the hole he and his family had used to make it into the safehold plenty of times.
And he just disappeared from view of the soldier. Taking deep breaths, he started laughing. What an adreniline rush!
He stood and brushed himself off before heading up the stairs and knocking four times. "Hey! It's Rayel! I'm here to see Eris!" he called out, hoping that Ra, one of his sisters, or his parents would let him inside the mansion.

One of Ra'theris' youngest sisters happened to be walking by one of the cellar doors when she heard someone thump on he old wood, 'Hey! It's Rayel! I'm here to see Eris!' The girl squeaked in surprise and pressed her ear to the door. The atmosphere in the S'enghet household was considerably tense with the war starting and all, and all of the children had been warned; told to be cautious and not to trust just anyone.
Once the girl made sure that it truly was Delani and not stranger who'd found the hole in the foundation and slipped in by chance, she opened the door and let the boy in. She then called out for someone to call for Ra.
This of course brought most of the house's daughters down the main stairs, all drawn out due to curiosity about who could be here to visit their little brother. When they caught sight of Delani, half of them giggled and blushed while the some of the others noticed that his clothes had been burned and fussed over the boy.
The last to descend was Ra'theris himself. He'd been up in the library --as usual-- his nose in an interesting story book about the last Great War. He'd caught mention of Nero and some other important figure. The text was written in the old tongue, and he'd nearly deciphered the page he was currently on when he heard his name being called. The commotion drew him out and down the steps.
Dark eyes settled on his friend and they widened. With the arrival of war, he hadn't expected to see Rayel for quite some time. Ra had actually been planning on crossing the border to see him within the following week. Ra'theris caught sight of the burned clothes and the now-exposed livid skin. Delani was injured.
He hurried down the last of the steps and sent one of his younger sisters for medical supplies, "What are you doing here? It's not safe..." Ra sighed and shook his head, "I should have known that not even a war would keep you on your side of the border." He let out a tense laugh and took his lover's elbow before leading him into the study.

If he knew his best friend (and why wouldn't he? he WAS his best friend, after all), then the other was probably in his room, studying something. At least his family would be downstairs, provided they were safe.
"Heyyy," a grin spread across the Niendran's face as he saw Ra emerge at long last. "Of course it won't! I guess this means it'll be more difficult for us to see each other now," his eyes met the floor, then connected with Ra's. Before he could really get settled in, one of Ra's sisters was back with the medicines to apply to his burn.
He didn't see what the big deal was. As long as he didn't move too much, touch it, or otherwise do anything but stand still, it wasn't so bad. The girl instructed him to lift his arm, and a few of Ra's sisters (well, three of them- all around their age, just a little older) were watching as his shirt was removed and the potion applied.
"Ow!" he hissed in pain, which of course warranted a burst of giggles from the girls. Delani wondered if they didn't see many men aside from their brother- probably not, given that they lived all of the way out in the middle of nowhere. What man in his right mind would go somewhere he could be attacked by the enemy. And by enemy, he meant Niendrans, not Ra's sisters. They were lovely, really... but in all honesty, he was truly more into guys, and though he might fuck just about anyone, he wouldn't fuck his best friend's sisters.
That was just a line he wasn't going to cross.
"So, I think I might have to stay here awhile, if that's okay. If things get really bad, I'm sure my family will be coming over..." it seemed the Carthonians had gained confidence with their so-called victory and were initiating most of the attacks along the border, at least, for now.

He was glad that his best friend wasn't hurt beyond the burn he's received on his side --not that that was to be disregarded. Ra was glad to see the other boy, his gaze having heated a little the moment it settled on his lover. It didn't escape his notice that Delani's shirt was removed, and it took quite the effort to keep from raking his eyes over that skin...
In order to keep himself in line, Ra focused on the angry red of Rayel's burn. It had to burn. Though he'd never experienced it himself, Ra had heard --or most likely read somewhere-- that a burn caused by magic was likely to hurt more and take longer to heal. For his best friend's sake he hoped this to be wrong.
Either way, Ra would stay by him and help him out as best he could. "Of course you can stay. And your family is always welcome."An excited tingle went through him when Rayel asked if he could stay longer. Then he felt a slight pang of guilt. His lover had gotten himself injured to come here, and the circumstances were definitely not positive ones; how could he be thinking of sex right now?!
His eyes wandered from the burn to Rayel's face and he remembered why. This boy had stolen his heart, was able to make him react in ways that others simply could not. It made his heart ache. Ra had to clear his throat.
Once his sisters were done fussing over Rayel, he took his friend's elbow and led him upstairs, mumbling something about having to give him one of his own shirts.
He led Rayel into his room then shut the door behind himself and leaned against it. Dark eyes looked the other boy over, making sure he wasn't injured anywhere else, "I didn't think I'd see you for a while..." His jaw clenched as he looked at the now-bandaged burn, "Who was it? What did they look like?"

Sometimes he felt at a loss to do about his sisters, but he supposed he'd act the same way if he went for days on end without seeing an eligible guy to date. Again, the principle applied that he wasn't going to touch his best friend's sisters.
Well, that was no matter. They were on their way to Ra's room, and the sting on his side was already starting to feel better. He gave his friend a playful smile when the door was closed, but it still seemed that Ra was being serious. So he just took a seat on the edge of his friends bed and leaned back to expose his chest to Ra.
"I don't know. If I'd stopped to look at his face, I wouldn't be here, would I?" truth be told, Delani wasn't sure that he could handle another one-on-one confrontation with a Carthonian soldier. But he continued to return to his friend's home... becuase he couldn't bear to be apart from him, and because he couldn't bear the thought of Ra'theris going through what he had.
He shook his head. "You have anything I can wear? Or do you want to help me undress...?" he left the sentence hanging and he licked his lips, meeting Ra's eyes. "C'mon, it's not that bad. And it's been weeks." that was his reasoning, at least. And he knew that sex with Ra was the best- better than with anyone else. He had known that for a long time. But sex didn't mean anything... sex didn't mean anything at all.

His resolve had started to crumble the moment he got Rayel alone. When his friend took a seat on the bed and pushed out his chest that way...he nearly shoved himself off the door to get to him. But he remained where he was, his shoulder tensing slightly from the effort it took. He needed to focus on what had happened,
'I don't know. If I'd stopped to look at his face, I wouldn't be here, would I?'
The dark male signed and nodded, "I suppose so."
Slight waves of desire were making their way over his skin, giving him goosebumps. Was this normal? Ra wouldn't know, he'd never done this with anyone other than Delani.
'You have anything I can wear? Or do you want to help me undress...? C'mon, it's not that bad. And it's been weeks.'
Almost before the words had left his lover's lips, Ra had pushed off the door and was making his way to the bed. Planting a hand on either side of the other boy, he leaned down and kissed the other deeply. He would be careful with Delani's body, avoiding the burn, but he wouldn't hold anything bad while kissing him.
It really had been a while, the desire twisting in his belly was almost painful. ...This couldn't be normal, needing someone so much...
