When your tears are spent on your last pretense And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defence Aindriu Syden Nuckols --------------------------------------------------------------------------........................................................................................................~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aindriu was still in this snowy city, he had gone through the town and the festival with that young solider he had met. Lyric had worried the whole time when he had left her here n these stables but nothing really bad happened. Well, that one guy was weird but then Rh'einn was there and the guy disappeared. The boy shook his head as he came face to face again with the large horse in front of him in the stables here.
She was determined that he learn more forms with his shifting abilities and after he had managed the lab, now Lyric was pushing a horse like herself. Lyric was worse about this than any tutor Aindriu had ever seen and those sharp nips and hard hooves got points across when he was slacking off in her opinion. "Oh well you try it sometime," Aindriu remarked at the horse as she just seemed to laugh in a horse like way.
He had been working on trying this form for months now and even after just going through the festival she was pushing him again. Aindriu grumbled at the horse again, as he tried using the knowledge of what it felt like to change forms when he turned into a dog. The mare stamped an impatient hoof at him when all he seemed to be able to do was start a transformation before it slipped away. It was so close, he could feel his hands and fingers go stiff trying to form hooves and yet it would always escape him.
"What does that even mean?" he asked as she implied that he think more like a horse. He looked at the mare in her large eyes, "How do I even think like something I've never been?" Aindriu was getting louder as he got more and more frustrated with it still not working even though he could feel it so close. He ran a frustrated hand through his hair again trying to think as Lyric snorted at him again. "I know, I know just let me take a break and think."
The horse snorted and backed away from the boy not so happy with his loud tone to wards her. He needed to learn this power he had, she knew this much and something that could protect him like the strong form of a horse was even better. She motioned for him to try again, he wasn't going to get anywhere sitting there and whining like a little foal.
"Fine, fine," Aindriu said with a sigh trying again. The feeling of magic taking over his form and changing his appearance inside and out again. His hands and feet stiffening, fur coming through, and his entire structure taking shape. Finally, it was all clicking in place like it should of the last time and in the end another horse stood with Lyric now. He wasn't as large of a breed of horse as her, more of an Arabian with thinner legs and a more agile looking build but a horse none the less.
In his excitement Aindriu reared up, those two front hooves going up into the air. Lyric watched proud of her boy, he was very much her foal and seeing him finally get this form was a wonderful thing. His hooves clicked back down to the ground still excited about being able to get this form down after so long. Aindriu tossed his mane, caught up in his own little world of him and Lyric in all that this had created.

He'd had an interesting evening with that gorgeous blond traveler. The Kwondi wine hadn't tasted so good in years. Maybe good company just made the Winter Festival --or any group activity or event-- more enjoyable. It made sense really.
Unfortunately for Rh'einn, that first night they'd each gone to their seperate rooms. He'd slept quite well, but having the warmth of another person beside him may have made his sleep much better. No use in wondering about it now.
For the rest of the week they'd gone out to enjoy the festival while Rh'einn wasn't working, and the young mage really learned to appreciate the schedule Lord Sorren had set up for the Winter Festival. Before, it hadn't really made much difference. But now that he had someone to spend some time with, well...it mattered.
Rh'einn found himself quite attracted to the smaller male, and he sometimes found his concentraction snap and something would catch fire. Luckily he'd so far managed to put out the fire before anyone else would notice. If Aindriu or Lord Sorren had seen...well that would have been quite the embarassment.
He'd dressed casually for the day, having no guard duty until that evening. It was his turn for night duty, a task he never quite looked forward too, but at least he wouldn't be picturing Aindriu beneath the covers with him until the next morning. By which poing he would be too exhausted to hold the image for long before sleep would take him.
Rh'einn smiled ironically as he walked down the hall, his soft leather boots thumping lightly as he stepped on the wooden floor. He knocked on Aindriu's door but there was no answer. This meant that the boy was either eating in the common room, in the stable with Lyric, or out in the city somewhere.
A number of quick steps had him down the stairs and in the common room within a minute or two. He grabbed a chunk of bread, cheese, meat and a tomato, then headed through the back out in to the yard and toward the stable. He bit into the bread as well as the cheese, and smiled around the mouth-full as he caught the sound of Aindriu talking to Lyric, as well as the mare's snorts and the sound of her hoovese on the stone.
Quietly he stepped through the doors and for Lyric's stall. However what he saw next made him freeze and remain where he stood. With wide eyes he watched as the form of his newly aquired friend changed from that of a human to one of an agile and slender horse. In his surprise he dropped the tomato and watched as it rolled over the straw to bump agains Aindi's hoof before wiggling to a stop.

It was like when he had discovered this power the first time, the feeling like almost having a new body. Well, it was still him just in a different shape and size. Aindriu snorted like Lyric had done to him many times just because now he could and not some poor human imitation. He tossed his mane in the amazement of it all, that such a thing was finally available to him.
Though the excitement and happiness of it all was short lived as he felt something hit against his hoof. Curiously he looked over and down at the tomato that had knocked against him. Aindriu looked up slowly following the possible trail of the fruit back to where he saw Rh'einn, making his eyes go wide.
Sure, people had seen him in his changed form as a dog before but never had he let anyone watch him change. It was embarrassing for the boy, for someone to watch his body go against its own form and taking a new shape. Aindriu backed up quickly as he could, his own hooves twisting under him like a newborn foal not yet sure on there feet. Though in such a form it wasn't possible to hide from the embarrassment like if he were the smaller human boy he was supposed to be.
His futile retreat ending rather quickly as he backed up to the wall of the stall, Lyric standing just outside not sure what was wrong with her boy. Why would he be so worried after he had finally managed this now? Besides the man that entered had been watching her boy as they went to that human festival, so it was not like he was some dangerous stranger exactly.
The combination of the countless tries of trying this form and finally getting it, then the sudden surprise of Rh'einn, and then the embarrassment with all his concentration going to it, it was no wonder that the horse shape slipped from Aindriu again. If he had been conscious after the magic had left him there against the wall of the stall, then he would have been even more embarrassed by his now lack of clothing. Though none of that was important now that the whole thing had left him like it had.
Lyric's nature kicking in instantly as she quite obviously frightened with her boy like he was against the wall. Those large dark eyes looking at the other man for a mere moment before rushing into where Aindriu was against the wall. The mare obviously panicked trying to figure out how to help him before pulling off one of the horse blankets off the low wall and draping it over the boy the best she could with her teeth. After spending so many years with him, she had noticed his lack of fur and need for such things like blankets. She pressed her nose softly against his face wishing that was enough to wake the boy back up and make everything better again.

Where Aindiru once stood, now was what appeared to be a horse more slender and smaller in size than Lyric, his coat a light brown --the mane lighter-- and his eyes a dark cherry-wood colour. Rh'einn was amazed to say the least. He'd read about those with the ability to shift into animals or other people, but he'd never learned too much about it. And he'd never expected to get a front row seat to such an incredible transformation.
The awe faded to worry however, when he saw the alarm on Aindiru's now-horse-features. Why was he afraid? Was such magic prosecuted from here he came from? Rh'einn set the cheese and other foods on a bail of hay, forcing himself to move slowly then raised his hands, palms toward the two horses,
"Now...don't be afraid, Aindriu..."
He bit his lip for a moment. Did those with the Shifting ability also transform their brain? Was Aindriu thinking like a human or like a horse at the moment?
"You are still Aindriu...aren't you?"
Then he went still a stone again when Aindriu slipped from the form of a horse to that of a human, just as easily as he'd done the opposite only minutes before. Amazing.
The blond was completely bare, and Rh'einn felt a hint of lust in the pit of his stomach. He'd have probably felt more if Aindriu didn't seem in such a panicked state. And only then did the mage notice the shreds on the stable floor; they were what had to have been the young traveler's clothes.
"It's alright...I won't tell anyone. You won't get in trouble..."

The words had been lost on the other man as his emotions over took him. The complete embarassment he felt knowing that someone had seen him changed had messed him entirely up. Then without much warning the horse form had been ripped from him and the pain coming from using the magic over and over again came with it knocking the poor blond boy out far a few moments.
When he came to he had only a horse blanket drapped over him. His cheeks easily pink, more red, from the embarassment and the cold as well. Aindriu pulled the blanket up more over himself, drawing his legs under it the best he could. "Turn into a horse she says. Its much better than some little dog she says," Aindriu muttered the embarassment mixing with anger in his confusion of emotions right then. He looked up then at the two watching him his cheeks getting a bit darker at it all.
It brought it all back again and again how this man, Rh'einn, had been the first person to ever to see him do such a thing with his magic. Why had he listened to her in the first place? And why did they have to do it somewhere so cold? Though Aindriu had caught Rh'einn's last sentence and that one word, trouble, bothered him quite a bit. Trouble, would that get him in trouble here? He smiled sheepishly at the other, at least he wouldn't be out telling the first person he saw what Aindriu could do.
He shivered bringing back the point that he was practically bare in front of the other save for the blanket. Though before he could even asked Lyric was next to him dropping a small bag next to him, she always seemed to be one step ahead when it came to such things. Aindriu quickly pulled a shirt over his head, at least it was better than just a blanket for now. "Please don't tell anyone," Aindriu looked down with that blond hair trying to hide his blushing face, "Its really embarassing.... and I just don't really want anyone to know."

Rh'einn tried to hear what the blond was muttering, his slightly tanned expression one of confusion. He'd never been in a situation like this before. After a moment's thought, he stepped forward, hoping that Lyric wouldn't attack him. The mage gave the mare a reassuring look, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
"I just said that I wouldn't tell anyone...don't worry"
He kept his tone low, but loud enough to be heard by the boy and the horse. Rh'einn was trying to seem as harmless as possible. He liked this boy; it wouldn't do to scare him off now. Aindriu would likely be on the road again soon, and Rh'einn wanted to savor the time he had with the smaller male.
Rh'einn then realized just how cold it was in he stable. Quickly he removed his thick button up shirt and moved forward. Forgetting the caution he felt toward the mare, he didn't stop until he was standing in front of Aindriu. The mage then draped the warmed, thick cotton over the blond's shoulders, covering the shirt Aindriu had already put on.
"It's cold in here..."
A chill washed over his now bare skin, and he rubbed his arms. Luckily he wasn't self conscious of his bare chest and stomach; Rh'einn was simply cold, "We should go inside. If you get sick you'll be stuck here with me until you're better." His tone was teasing, and he winked...however the prospect of keeping Aindi just for a little longer...
Well he felt guilty that even for a moment he'd wish for the other to be unhealthy...for Rh'einn's selfish needs none the less.

He pulled out the hair that hadn't already fallen out from inside his shirt. Looking up again at Rh'einn with pink still on those cheeks as he smiled, "Thank you." Aindriu taking Rh'einn's words for face value truly believing in them like he would with anyone. It had backfired on him a few times, but still the boy believed in others words with that trusting nature of his.
Though Rh'einn surprised him even more when he draped his own shirt over the one Lyric had just given him. Aindriu was about to protest, it was like being back home and people giving him things of theirs because of who he was or how he looked. He wasn't the baron and he was never going to be, as far as he was concerned he wasn't any kind of baron or anything just part of the family. Though before he could get a chance to give it back Rh'einn spoke again.
Aindriu watched the other rub his arms in the cold as he spoke and then that wink that confused the boy even more so. Though confusing or not, Rh'einn did have a point about the cold. He stood up rather quickly, forgetting the fact about using so much magic not so long before, which had him loose balance on his own feet. Aindriu stumbled a bit falling into Rh'einn staying there for a mere moment before pushing off the others shoulder.
"I... I'm sorry," Aindriu said quickly trying to fix as what he saw as a quite rude thing he had just done. "I didn't mean... I guess going from hooves so quickly.. sorry," Aindriu kept talking quickly just trying to right his wrong as he stood there with those two shirt and a horse blanket in one hand. It wouldn't do if he upset the one other friend he had here besides Lyric.

He looked away for just a moment and suddenly Aindriu was leaning against him, sending a tingle of awareness through him. Rh'einn's eyes widened and he placed a supportive hand on the boy's arm. However Aindi pulled away much too quickly, and his expression was one of intense embarrassment.
Rh'einn felt bad for the boy, "Don't worry about it!" He was tempted to encourage the other to do it again, but kept his mouth shut. The mage also had the urge to pull the blond close and into his arms, touch his lips to his just for a moment...
No. Aindi --despite his looks-- more than likely liked women. He possibly even had a little lady friend waiting for him at home. Rh'einn sighed, then forced a smile onto his lips. "It's fine...really. Common, let's go inside..."
He placed a hand on the boy's lower back and led him toward the back stairs. It wouldn't do to parade him around all the others in the kitchen or common room/dining room. As they left, he nodded with respect to Lyric, knowing her to be considerably more intelligent than any other horse he'd encountered.

Aindriu smiled again at Rh'einn, at least the other was nice enough to let that go. Changing into a horse and then being jerked back so suddenly was more of a shock than he was expecting. His expressions always showing so clearly on his face as they did now with his eyes closed in that child-like smile. that smile still on his face even after he opened his eyes, though not as intense.
Lyric watched the two still a bit curious over the dark haired male over her boy. The mare kept quiet rather then get Aindriu's attention, she was curious as to what exactly was going on between the two. After so many years of Aindriu spending time with her and using that magic of his to communicate with her, the horse had picked up on many things. Some things an unsensitized horse would likely miss.
"I'll come see you later Lyric," Aindriu said to the horse who gave a response in her own way. It had started with Rh'einn leading Aindriu inside and the blond was fine with that seeing as he believed the other was just trying to be nice after his first trip. Though that didn't last long for the snow against his bare feet instantly reminded him that he hadn't thought far enough to think of any kind of shoes. Aindriu jumped ahead in the snow making odd quick steps trying to get through the cold squeaking at it most of the way to the back stairs since they were closer.
"Come on, come on," he said to Rh'einn trying to get out of the cold but not wanting to leave the other behind. He still held the others shirt on his shoulders as he stood rather impatiently at the bottom step, "Its cold." Then with that the blond went up the stairs quickly trying to escape the cold.

The squeak of the snow made him look down, and his eyes widened as he only then noticed that Aindriu wasn't wearing any shoes --not even socks! Before he could say anything, the blonde hopped through the layer of white and was soon waiting for Rh'einn by the stairs. He couldn't help but smile to himself. Not only was Aindi gorgeous, but he also made him laugh. It wasn't fair that the other boy would have to be on his way soon...
His brow creased at the thought, and he watched as the other boy hurried up the stairs, too cold to wait any longer. Goosbumps moved over his own skin and Rh'einn found himself hurrying as well. Soon, but not soon enough, he was out of the cold and making his way up the stairs.
Too bad the inn had had extra rooms available, or he could be sharing with Aindriu.
What was he thinking? This boy was making him go mad...
As they walked down the hallway, Aindi a little bit ahead, the mage found himself looking at the other's exposed legs. Slender and smooth except for the golden hairs that looked soft to the touch. How would the boy react if Rh'einn unexpectedly pinned him to the wall?
They reached Aindriu's door first, and before the boy could go in, Rh'einn took a hold of the boy's sleeve and quickly pulled him down the hall toward his own room. He pressed an air to the door, peeked inside, then went in. "There was someone in your room..." His jaw clenched with temper. How dare anyone try to steal from Aindi? "Stay here."
He quickly grabbed his word, went out the door and down the hall to investigate, and possibly catch a thief in the act --leaving Aindriu alone and half naked in the mage's room.

When your tears are spent on your last pretense And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defence Aindriu Syden Nuckols --------------------------------------------------------------------------........................................................................................................~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aindriu moved quickly down the cold floor of the hall. The faster down the hall, the faster to his room, and the faster to warmer clothes. Sure the boy had traveled quite a bit but he had never, nor had he ever planned to, experience the cold of the snow like he just had moments ago. Well, maybe if he had grown up somewhere like here. No, even if he had no one went running around barefoot like he just had in such weather.
They reached his own room first and Aindriu was about to open the door when Rh'einn pulled him away. He was about to say something, ask why, but the others facial expression made him stop closing his mouth again and following. Rh'einn had lead Aindriu to his own room, Aindriu distracted with looking around the room before actually hearing what the other said.
Someone was in his room? Was it a thief? Or was it one of father's men again sent to 'check' on him? That had happened more than once, a man sent to 'check' when really his father was trying to get him to come home. But his father couldn't find him, could he? He hadn't even used his last name and only gave his first to a few like Rh'einn and the people who ran this place. Though before Aindriu could say anything, Rh'einn had taken his sword and left.
Aindriu paced around the room trying to think, even if he knew what to do whoever was in his room was with any of the things he could use. There was probably, maybe something Rh'einn had in here that he could use to help but that would mean going through the others things and he probably wouldn't be much of a help anyways. Aindriu fell back on Rh'einn's bed not wanting to try and think on his feet anymore. He closed his eyes with an arm over his eyes, he was so useless at times like this.

Without bothering to listen at the door, Rh'einn kicked it open to find two thin thieves rummaging through Aindi's things. At the sight of Rh'einn and his unsheathed sword the two men cried out in alarm and made for the open window. They were both out by the time Rh'einn made it to the windowsill. There was no way he would risk his neck going after them, the rooftops were glistening with ice.
The mage growled and pulled the windows shut before pushing the latch into place. It wasn't secure enough to keep out an experienced thief however. Hell, even a novice could get these windows open from the outside.
Rh'einn slammed a fist against the wall, then headed out into the hall, talking to the innkeeper who'd hurried up the stairs when he he heard the ruckus. Having known Rh'einn for some time, and having never had any trouble from him, the innkeeper readily believed his story.
Looking rather sour, the young male then made his way to his own rooms, and tossed the sword onto the floor. "Thieves...I don't know if they took anything. They both got away through the wind--" Just then he looked over to find Aindi on his bed, with nothing but two shirts to cover him.
Desire punched him in the gut --more intense than the one he'd experienced in the stables-- and he nearly staggered on the spot. Dear Nero, he'd never wanted anyone like this...

Aindriu stayed on the bed with his legs falling over the side even when it was easy to hear the men yelling down the hall. The blond just shut his eyes tighter wishing that he could do something to help or maybe they would just disappear and not come back. That would be nice, though it didn't seem so believable to him right then.
His ears perked as he heard the sword fall to the ground and Rh'einn enter the room again talking about the men who had just been in his room. Aindriu moved the arm off his eyes, sitting up and looking at the other. "Thieves," he repeated quietly, maybe this time he had gotten away from his father and besides the old man didn't like Carthonia too much. Maybe he had lucked out this time around, it put a small and quite out of place smile on his face in such a situation.
Now though, Aindriu had no clue what to say. The usually non-stop talking blond at a stop for words. He felt as if he should say something, he just had to find the right words. "Well thank you anyways," was what he had finally come up with and well he was thankful rather or not those people had stolen anything. The other cared enough to protect him like that, even if he should have been able to do such a thing for himself, but it was nice to know someone would protect because they wanted to not because they had too.

When the source of his infatuation thanked him, he felt as if he were on top of the world --almost. He did feel a flutter in his stomach, adding to the desire already coiling there. Damn.
He couldn't hold back. Not anymore. "You should stay here...in case they come back..." The mage swallowed audibly, "Please, if not for your safety then...to ease my mind."
As he spoke, his feet took him from near the door, over to the bed. Those bare legs...His hands trembled slightly at his sides, feeling the need to touch, to caress.
Damn.
Before he could change his mind, he took a hold of the other's delicate jaw and pressed his lips to Aindi's. Gods! He'd been longing to do this....and the wait had been worth it; the blonde's lips felt like the softest silk.

The true meaning of Rh'einn's words of Aindriu staying with him going over the boy's head. He still saw the other as a friend, a friend concerned for his safety as it seemed to him. Though before he could answer Rh'einn was before him, then a hand was on his jaw, and then lips were pressed against his.
Aindriu was at more than at a loss of words, he didn't know what to do period. He had never kissed anyone before, well not a real kiss that counted like this. Those blue eyes wide at first stunned and those cheeks painted with color once again like they had been out in the stables. He had been on his 'quest' to find something like this for the last few year, right? Though now that it may be coming true, Aindriu had no clue where to go or what do as he once thought he did.
When the kiss finally ended, Aindriu was still frozen looking up at Rh'einn. Slowly he brought a finger to his own lips but still unable to say anything and only look at the other.
