The blond remained straight in her saddle, despite the need to slump over a little from near exhaustion. She was quite the energetic girl, however the events of the past few weeks, along with the long ride home and the prospect of having to face her mother....Quissandra Perstai was fighting to think positive. She forced a smile to her lips and looked to her companion, "She's going to skin me." Despite dreading the fury of her parents, some sick or adventurous part of her was looking forward to the 'battle'. It showed itself through the hint of amusement in her tone.
"Perhaps, but you'll live, and you'll grow back thicker skin for it," she knew Quissandra didn't mean it literally- at least, she hoped not. Cynessa was cruel, but she doubted she'd skin her daughter alive. Stab her in the chest, probably, but not skin her. "Besides, we had fun, didn't we?" ever since falling ill and having to rely on Quissandra, she had opened up a bit.
"Yes, we certainly spent my last few weeks of freedom quite well." She smiled affectionately at Cynessa, not shy about it. "She'll likely confine me to my room, she likes to do that..." A smile played over her lips. Her mother had used just that punishment in the past, and thanks to her Quissandra had become quite the climber. "I wonder if much has changed while we were away..." Her expression changed to one of curiosity as they rode into the city.
"Well, we know that the 'prince' has left for a peace conference... idiots," she muttered. "This world will never see peace. We need to fight while we can and crush those fucking barbarians."
"Peace definitely feels unattainable..." she slowed her horse, so as to keep from colliding with the crowds of people on foot. "We should spend our energies on strengthening our armies."
Cynessa practically glowed when Quiss agreed with her. "Exactly. But our stupid monarchy wants to try out this 'peace' idea. It will end in disaster. I know that."
"It certainly feels that way." The city held a sort of tension, and she saw the creases of worry on the brows of many. "I wonder how the king and queen are faring."
Cynessa was hoping that they'd just bite it already, but she didn't want to have to deal with Daenyeh'l as king. The boy was much more stubborn and strong-willed than his parents. She might actually have a rival.
They were nearing the road that would lead to her house, and she felt herself tense a little. "Will you be coming with me, or heading for your family's estate?" Quiss wasn't dependant enough to need Cynessa as backup or anything of that kind, she was simply curious.
"I think I want to be there to see what your mother has to say... It would be interesting, don't you think?" she raised an eyebrow with a coy grin.
"Hah, yes I'm sure you will find it quite amusing." Quissandra winked and laughed as she pushed some of her locks out of the way and over one shoulder.
Cynessa caught the wink and looked forward. "Quissandra... what... exactly are we?"
The blond felt her heart stop for a moment. then took a deep breath and looked at Cynessa, "I'm not sure if there is a word for it...."
"... I see," she frowned, thinking to herself. "I don't understand."
"What do you not understand...." She felt her body tense. This conversation could go one way or another, and she feared that Cynessa would step out of the picture.
"Do you like me?" she stopped her horse, looking point blank at Quiss.
Quiss stopped her horse as well, meeting the other girl's gaze, "Yes." She steeled herself, "Do you like me?"
Cynessa looked down. "...I've never liked anyone before. I thought it was stupid. ...But I like you."
Quissandra felt her cheeks warm and a smile tug up the corners of her lips. If they weren't on horseback, she'd have probably tried to tackle the other girl. She didn't know the perfect words for the situation, so she just smiled her brightest smile.
"But what now? What does one 'do' after they tell someone they like them?" Cynessa didn't know what to do, really.
"I don't know...I've never liked anyone before either..." She tightened the reigns as her horse got impatient and danced on the spot, "I suppose we keep seeing each other and see where it goes...?"
"... Alright, but you can't be seeing anyone else at the same time," she glared at Quiss threateningly.
"That never even occurred to me." She winked again, "And the same rule applies to you." While she didn't glare, she did have a serious expression on her face.
"I wouldn't," Cynessa said seriously.
The flat expression brightened up again, and she resisted the impulse to hop from her horse to Cynessa's just so she could press close. A blush reddened her cheeks at the though and she cleared her throat a little. "Ready to watch me face my mother..?"
"Huh? Oh! Right," She smiled ever so slightly and uged her horse to move forward so that the could go face the wrath of Viscountess Perstai.
Quissandra smiled back, then started again in the direction of the Perstai manor. Servants caught sight of her golden hair before they reached the gates, and the Viscountess was already waiting by the stable entrance when they led the horses around the estate to reach the smaller building. The older woman had hair as blond as Quissandra's, but she was little shorter in stature. Her face was nearly pink from anger, "If you expect me to welcome you home with open arms, I'm sorry to say you will be disappointed. Though it will in no way compare to the dissapoinment I have felt over the past few weeks!" the younger Perstai swung out of the saddle and stood her ground, shoulders rolled back, "You wouldn't have let me go if I asked."
"So sneaking out in the middle of the night like some thief was your solution!?" The blue eyes finally seemed to notice Cynessa, and she couldn't help but sneer a little, "I knew you had to be behind this somehow." The older woman turned her gaze back on Quissandra, "How dare you bring her to our home?!"
Cynessa watched the Viscountess with an unnervingly blank stare. "What an accusation, Viscountess. I suppose you have forgotten, in your momentary lapse into insanity, that you are talking to a superior," she meant herself, of course.
"No worries. I will be taking my leave," when she looked at Quissandra, it was with a certain softness. "Good luck."
The older Perstai reddened considerably at having been reminded of her place by none other than her rival's daughter. Her hands clenched at her sides and she tried to keep her temper in check and her lips shut.
Quissandra felt the temptation from before, wanting to embrace Cynessa. But she waved in stead, her expression just as soft as the other girl's. Quissandra was angry with her mother sure, but she didn't want the woman's heart to stop in her chest either. "Thank you." The two words were meant to encompass everything Cynessa had given her in the past two weeks.
