Four blond paws flew over the ground as the joyful looking lab ran between the trees. He called it practice on his shape shifting but it was more just for the joyful feeling of running that he had only found with these four paws. Sure all this fun probably did help his skills but mostly it was for the fun and to pick up scents, a whole new way to learn about the places he visited with his lovely mare.
After some time he trotted back towards where she was waiting for him in that small clearing they had found not to far off the road. He got a snort from that large black and white beast as he walked back to her with that form still of a lab. The first time he had changed back had spooked the poor mare but after years of traveling and spending time with him, she had come to accept the boy like she had when they had met.
"Sorry Lyric," he said placing a hand on the side of her neck with that apologetic smile on his lips, "I had to see what was out there. Check out the world around us on legs that could move easier in these trees." He just got an annoyed snort as she flicked her head to the other side. "I know. I know but the trees can't take such a creature like yourself, that's why they grow to close together for you to move easily." The mare looked back at him as he smiled, Aindriu had learned long ago that just because his power helped him talk to animals didn't mean it gave him all the right words.
"Come on girl, lets....," he stopped as the horse flicked her head around towards the trees and Aindriu looked as he heard the noise in the trees as well. Sure Aindriu was just sniffing around in the trees but not anywhere near the side where the road was and now that sound. He stayed behind the mare, as if she would let him walk out in front of her with both of them not knowing who or what it was.

The roads were good if one was trying to get to one place from another, but for Laurel they were a nice place to get lost. The forests were beautiful in the middle of the day, the sunlight breaking through the leaves as the wind rustled them. It was also a place where nature was left untouched like the way it was meant to be...and for Laurel that meant materials for her gardens and to take to the market. Special herbs that the healers used...beautiful plants to made in offerings...
She'd left the palace grounds almost three days before, and now as she began to prepare to leave she'd gathered her things before making her way from the woods towards the roads again. It would be nightfall before she'd be back at the palace grounds, but it would be nice to enjoy the travel. As the thickness of the woods gave way towards the clearing for the road Laurel hoisted her packs up a little higher.
Up ahead she could hear something...or someone moving about, a voice, but just one with no reply to it. Her brow furrowed as she stopped her move forward, eyes narrowing towards the road ahead as she moved her hand along the low hanging leaves, the thick green leaves shriveling and turning brown as water played along her fingers moving in a way that could only be her magic as it formed along the edge of her hand like a blade.
Moving across the threshold where the woods met the road she kept her translucent weapon at her side, hidden as she looked along the path at the young man there.
"Not many people travel along this path..." She called out, close enough she could see the young man and his horse, but still far enough away that she could run if it came to that.

Aindriu didn't move at first, letting himself be hid mostly by the horse. He ducked under Lyric's neck after the young woman spoke to him, as if Lyric would let him go in front of her. Lyric was quite protective of the boy and was a threat to many, the height of her shoulder almost as tall as Aindriu and many of the people Aindriu had met had seen the scarier side of the horse.
"Well they should," he said still looking out from under that white neck, "Its beautiful out here." That was the honest truth, even when he was running around on four paws it was wonderful to watch it all go by. So much different than his home where he had to go so far just to get away from the people, soldiers, and buildings. It was truly wonderful out in the wilderness like this and he was able to talk to animals easier where they weren't so afraid of so many people.
"Ah, um..." he started to say but then gave up half way through, "Hold on a moment." Then with that he moved quickly slipping under Lyric between her legs where she wouldn't be able to catch him so easily. He stood back up now on the other side of Lyric closer to the woman with Lyric snorting about the boy getting around her. "We're just traveling about," he said with a slight smile quite innocent in it all, "What are you doing out here?"

Laurel watched the boy, however as she did that her gaze also traveled around the area where he was. She could have sworn she heard him talking, and though there was no one else around she was cautious, keeping her hand behind her at the ready. She hated hurting people, but too many times she'd met people who would have done more to her for simply having seen their face. He seemed...young, like a child that was on the edge of being grown, and as innocent as his appearance was she was not one to misjudge looks. Many times at parties and balls when her step mother insisted Laurel would meet many young men and women who were pretty to look at, and innocent enough, but still very, very dangerous.
However the longer she stood there the more she began to think that the horse seemed more wary of her than the young man who moved beneath the beast to get closer to her.
"Yes, it is very beautiful indeed. Not many use this road because it's so dense of a woods around it, but it's beautiful nonetheless because so few come here." Slowly she released her hold on the water, letting the cold liquid spill to the beaten path instead. Even if he did end up trying to attack she had the earth around them to use, the roots beneath the road so thick and old, but strong...
"It's not safe to travel alone too often around here...me though, I'm on my way back to the palace. I was out here looking for new herbs to use. The healers have seemed desperate for them, and these woods are the closest that have not yet turned with the seasons. Soon though I'll have to go further." She never said what palace it was she was traveling too...keeping her lips closed until she could better guess where the other was from. Even with tensions high it was not uncommon to have travelers from other countries still for trade and such.
"What's your name? I'm Laurel." She made no move forward, but neither did she try to pull away. For now she simply had to trust that was seemed as good as he looked as she gave a gentle smile, once more shouldering her packs up a little higher as she found a better grip on the canvas sack.
"Where you talking to your horse before? I could have sworn I heard you talking."

When your tears are spent on your last pretense And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defence Aindriu Syden Nuckols --------------------------------------------------------------------------........................................................................................................~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aindriu smiled, an honestly little move of the mouth. It wasn't hard to tell that the boy shouldn't be out traveling so alone as he did. His father had tried many times to talk him out of these ideas he had, but Aindriu wouldn't have it. That was why he was out again like he was now, the last time he was home both his parents had tried to marry him off to some girl he had never met but he had been gone before the sun rose the next day. Aindriu was not about to let himself be tied down to that place, it was frightening to him to have all of his life decided without a word from him.
"Thats a shame," he said simply, "They don't know what they are missing out here. All the trees, plants, and animals around and they are stuck in their everyday lives in their little towns." Aindriu continued on, "But I have to travel. I have to search to find what I'm looking for." He stopped there on that explanation, those words of his father coming back to him and how foolish his travels were and that he should grow up. He would make the man understand one day, he would definitely find what he was looking for.
"I'm Aindriu and this is Lyric," he said putting a hand back on the horse who was still not quite pleased with all that was going on. He looked back at the mare, "Shes my best friend and we talk all the time, well I do most of the talking anyways." He looked back at the woman, something she had said earlier making him a bit curious. "Palace?" he asked looking at her wondering if she would answer.

"I'm glad they're missing out on this...as beautiful as this place is the nobles would only find a way to tear it apart and make it into property to own and not to enjoy. The woods thrive when man is not present all the time...just like animals can live in peace without always being hunted." Laurel replied softly with a sigh as she slowly moved a few feet forward.
Along with his own introduction he also introduced his beast which as she looked at her felt as if the horse wasn't exactly pleased with her as she closed a little bit more of the distance between them. "Its a pleasure to meet you both."
His insistence to travel even the more dangerous road impressed her. His mention of searching for something made her curious about just what would bring someone out this far into the woods, "Searching? Searching for what? If it's something out here I might be able to help." In truth she knew the woods fairly well having been out there more than a few times. Really she enjoyed being out and alone here, being so far away from the rest of the world providing a much needed peace.
"Ah...yes...the Niendra royal palace at the capitol. I'm the head gardener there." Laurel remained silent about having any sort of connection to nobility, but the longer she stayed in the company of Aindriu she felt as if he was not someone to be considered a threat.

When your tears are spent on your last pretense And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defense Aindriu Syden Nuckols --------------------------------------------------------------------------........................................................................................................~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Your probably right," he said running a hand through his long blond hair, it always felt like it fell wrong when he changed shape like he had not much before he had this woman, this Laurel. "To caught up in their own affairs and lives I guess," he said his face seemingly go blank for a second thinking back on the nobles he had met. Wait, was he a noble due to his birth? Whether he was or not, he most definitely saw it as not.
"Same to you," he said that innocent smile returning to his face though her next question made him pause. He wasn't embarrassed like some thought he should be for taking on such a foolish quest that he had put his own self on, but after hearing people knock it down so many times made him keep it more to himself. "Ah well, the trees and life here were more of a detour for the two of us," he said speaking faster trying to avoid saying what he was actually looking for, "Thank you for you offer though, but its more of something I have to find on my own... well with a bit of help from my mare though." He gave a crooked smile at that as Lyric nudged into his arm. She was done standing and watching the conversation, but Aindriu himself was not.
When the mention of the palace came up and how she worked in the gardens Aindriu seemed to light with an inner excitement. He had seen the gardens there a few times when he had visited with his father as the older man took care of his business there. "You work on those gardens?" he asked the excitement clearly laced through his words, "They are so beautiful. I can't believe I get to meet someone who can do such things."

Laurel had not realized when she'd come to the forest that at any point in time she would have found herself in a conversation with another person. Her dirty clothes and hair a little disheveled as well to where she did not really seem to look like any sort of royal anything. "Politics take so much time to corrupt." She said, laughing softly, feeling more comfortable with the other, every moment spent he seemed less and less of a threat. He seemed young, and sweet, and the beast he was with acted almost protective with him.
Her curiosity grew as he refused her help, her head tilting to the side just a little now, "Just what is it you're questing for?" There was a chance she wouldn't get an answer to her question, some more protective then others, but she wasn't sure as they were slowly beginning to figure out each other and their reason of what had brought them here. If she'd given him something personal would he?
"Oh...thank you. I really only am there until I can find a way out. As much as I love the gardens I have reasons that may not keep me there. You've been to the gardens before though?" Her curiosity only doubled from that, her attention growing more focused now as she began to wonder more about just who this young man was, "Are you a noble? What house are you from?" Nobles...she could feel the muscles in her back grow a little tenser. Laurel didn't really get along well with most nobles, but at this point she could tell little of Aindriu, and she wanted to know more of his quest and just who he was.

Aindriu smiled at her comment, the meaning of it going over his head. The boy wasn't that equipped when it came to words and the like, probably another good reason he wasn't following behind his father for he barony. Well, that was even if him and his father could ever talk normally again to even think of such possibilities.
When she asked Aindriu's smile became more genuine than a few moments before, it was like a small flame lit n him again thinking about it again after this little break. "A person," he said happily, "Though I don't know where they are." That was all he gave and like that it sounded almost like a lost person than a person yet to even be known but Aindriu didn't mind because he would find them somewhere, somehow.
"You want to leave from there? I've only been there a few times but the gardens where always so lovely," he said with a smile. It was not a lie, the gardens where beautiful to him and many of the animals he had met around the castle seemed to like them as well. He even knew of one little bird who saved himself by one of these lady's bushes narrowly escaping a dangerous cat. "Thats what they say but thats my brother's job to be the next Nuckols baron. I have other things to do, someone to find."

"Someone to find with no lead to knowing where they are...that is quite a journey to go on by oneself." Laurel pointed out, but by now he probably knew that already so she gave him a gentle smile and a shrug, "I wish you luck with that, and here I thought escaping was hard. I do not envy you for having to look through all of Ceradonia for this person, but I am sure you will find them." The young woman really did wish him well, but she was surprised that someone like Aindriu would take on such a task by himself.
Giving a small sigh and a crooked grin she shrugged, "It is not the gardens I wish to run from." With the other near her, listening to him she found it surprising that they had an unusual similarity, "I am like you in that I have better things to do. However I know of your family. My father is related to our wonderful King and Queen, not so much to put me in line for any crown, but high enough I had to know most of the houses by the time I was introduced into society...however by then I was rolling around in dirt." A flutter of her hand brushed away her care of whatever titles were granted. She figure he cared about it as much as she did.
"It's refreshing to meet someone like yourself. Now I'm glad I did not think you were someone to attack."

"Well I'm not completely alone," he said with a smile his hand resting on Lyric's muzzle again, "Having her with me has helped me not give up yet." It was true, if he hadn't had Lyric or this power to be able to communicate with her so easily this search probably wouldn't have lasted as long as it did. "And thank you," he said to the young woman, "Its nice to hear someone else believe in this than just Lyric and I."
Aindriu's hand still going over the short white fur of the mare's face as he thought about all the time the two of them had spent together over this whole journey. It was rather impossible to imagine the past in any other way than with the mare black and white mare in it.
The blond didn't know how to react to what the other said then. He wasn't one to attack? He was about to respond when she had ended with that. His hand slipped of Lyric's fur to go through his own hair, "Well that's good then I guess." He said with a bit of an awkward smile, how else was he supposed to respond to such a comment?

"Well we all have to believe in something in this world. It takes guts to leave privilege and go out into the world knowing that you could lose it all. I mean the world isn't that dangerous, but there are always chances we take. It's important to at least try and overcome the odds." It was true, at least to her it meant a lot to go out on ones own like he was doing. "You even have a friend to help you. That's good...even if they are an animal."
Reaching into her pack she pulled out a small purplish flowered plant, the flowers so heavy with nectar the thing necks bowed down. Holding it out to the horse she made a soft clicking noise with her mouth. She did enjoy riding, and occasionally she'd help out with the animals in the stables. The flower was good for sweetening nasty flavors of medicines, but she knew some of the horses she'd been around liked it almost as much as apples.
"No it is a good thing. The roads aren't very safe anymore. not the ones close to the border, or the ones less traveled. It always pays to be careful. You seem like a good person though, not a thief." She smiled, pulling back after offering the plant to his mare, "You should be careful though. I was ready to cut you down if you posed a threat. Nearly run into bad luck a couple of times on this road."
